It's 2pm already and I was still running around from one area of Ikwerre Secretariat to another, in search of God knows what when my phone rang "Vicky, where are you?", I'm almost close I replied the caller who was expecting my coming to Aluu for the convocation ceremony.
At the junction, I said to myself, its been long I went to Aluu, just hope that bad road have been attended to or probably on reconstruction. One Okada man said " Oga e still dey as e dey dey before, now self own worse pass last year and imagine say Rain never fall plenty". We zoomed off and on getting to the community, I was greeted with the pictures you can see and a lot of things quickly came to my mind. This is a community that produced one of the finest writers in Ikwerre and Nigeria at large. He worked in the scholarship board for several years, had Government contacts and a home to prominent people whose activisms can help drag the attention of the Government to the plight of their people. No they just can't do it, i replied myself having in mind that Persons like Owhorkire Rhino, because he has been beclouded by insignificant, unnecessary and fruitless activities from a failed and Failing Political party, his thoughts have been pushed away, now his people are bouncing and suffering. Some who are also of the same Political party with me find it very discouraging to attempt to help their community find a New Rhythm in terms of Development. All they are after is what they will get to enrich themselves and their immediate family, forgetting that the Blessings of a community can propel one to a greater height. Is this a communal curse on them?
Due to the underdevelopment of the community, it has become a Landing home to Kidnappers, Cultism, unnecessary collection of daily toll by Nigeria Police officers and other criminal activities that have given the community a bad name.
Who is to be blamed? Government is everywhere but when an opportunity came to the Community, it was used to only construct the Uniport-Boundary Road leading to the Late Captain's Home. No protest, no Plea and no Arrangement to ensure that the major access roads in the community was given special attention too. Viam...the Government took off, the Burial was over and the community returned back to their old looking ways.
Electricity supply is a Christmas Gift that comes once in every 3months.
Selfishness is a disease that when those in proper position to champion the course of a community gets infected, the road to development becomes longer than expected.
Will they wake up? That's if they were sleeping.
